Abstract

Infeksi Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH), khususnya Ascaris lumbricoides, masih menjadi masalah kesehatan yang signifikan di wilayah dengan sanitasi buruk. Penggunaan obat sintetik jangka panjang berisiko menimbulkan resistensi dan efek samping. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas getah pepaya (Carica papaya) sebagai alternatif anthelmintik alami melalui perubahan morfologi telur Ascaris lumbricoides sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Kajian dilakukan dengan metode tinjauan literatur dari database Google Scholar dan ResearchGate terhadap artikel yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2021 hingga 2025, mencakup studi in vitro dan in vivo. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa getah pepaya mengandung enzim papain serta senyawa aktif seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, dan saponin yang mampu merusak lapisan kutikula telur cacing. Perubahan morfologi ditandai dengan pecahnya membran, hilangnya integritas struktur, dan hambatan perkembangan embrio. Efek ini menunjukkan bahwa getah pepaya berpotensi digunakan sebagai agen anthelmintik alami yang efektif dan aman. Diperlukan uji klinis lebih lanjut untuk mengkonfirmasi efektivitas dan keamanan penggunaan getah pepaya dalam terapi infeksi STH.
